Preparations underway for Penparcau’s Takeover of Aberystwyth Arts Centre!
Aberystwyth Arts Centre has joined forces with Penparcau Community Forum for a year-long project called ‘APT: Aberystwyth Arts Centre and Penparcau Forum Together’ which will see a ‘hand over’ of the Arts Centre to Penparcau residents for a week’s worth of events and activities in June 2018.

Preparations for the week in June are already well underway. On Saturday 17 February Penparcau residents visited Midlands Arts Centre (MAC) in Birmingham. Throughout the day, there was an opportunity to tour the centre, meet members of staff and even view one of the centre’s current Art exhibitions where they met the internationally-renowned, Mumbai based artist, Sahej Rahal.

APT Project coordinator, Alaw Griffiths said about the visit, “We are so grateful to staff at MAC Birmingham for such an inspiring day. It was great to meet and chat with staff from another creative arts venue and it was fascinating to learn about the similarities between both venues. We all took away some great ideas for the Penparcau Week!”

On 20 February an exciting Taster Day for residents took place back in Aberystwyth’s very own Arts Centre. Over 50 people attended the event where there was choice of over 20 different workshop sessions to get involved in. These included pottery, photography, marketing, creative writing, drama and even a backstage tour!

The Taster Day was a huge success with participants ranging from 2 years old to 70! George Barrett, Trustee and Vounteer at the Penparacu Community Forum said ‘It was a wonderful day and I learnt what fantastic work is going on in the Arts Centre!”

In the run up to the week in June, Alaw and the rest of the team have much more planned for participants including trips away to Pontio Arts Centre in Bangor and Theatr Clwyd in Mold. Aberystwyth Arts Centre will also be providing further training opportunities over the coming months in areas including Front of House, Artistic Programming and much more!

The project is available to all groups and residents of Penparcau, whatever age or experience. If you would like to get involved please contact Alaw Griffiths at Aberystwyth Arts Centre on alg54@aber.ac.uk / 01970 622832

This project is supported by Cynnal y Cardi (which is administered by Ceredigion County Council) under the LEADER scheme in Ceredigion and has received funding through the Welsh Government Rural Communities - Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Welsh Government.
