Wales born twin sisters, Sally and Emma Carlson established Carlson Dance Company in 1992, and soon the Company developed into one of Wales' most internationally successful dance companies, creating and touring stylish exciting work that is a delight to audiences.

Following a period concentrating on setting up and establishing Dance Blast - the highly successful dance education project in Monmouthshire and South East Wales, Carlson Dance Company return to touring with their most audience friendly performance to date. Highly accessible and thoroughly entertaining.

With 'Ella G.' the Company mixes frivolous entertainment, including a raffle so you may win a prize! With hints of Polish folk dance and heart-breaking revelations, 'Ella G.' is a theatrical epic that delves into the ritual of celebration and of fragmented memory. 'Ella G.' features six performers and live music by Carlson regular James Williams who shifts from piano and accordion effortlessly! The cast of two men and four women are drawn from Gibraltar, Germany, Belgium, Ireland and Wales. With the Carlson's unique absurd humour 'Ella G.' is a refreshing slice of breathtaking entertainment that is touching, thought-provoking and extremely funny. 'Ella G.' confirms the Company's reputation as one of Wales' most consistently innovative dance companies.

The experiences team of choreographer/performer Emma Carlson, designer/director Sally Carlson and composer James Williams* [*a Torch Theatre regular as Musical Director and Composer on many Torch Theatre Company productions including Christmas shows - 'Aladdin', 'Pinocchio', 'Jack & the Beanstalk' and 'Danny & the Donkey Man and the Search for the Magic Crystal' plus Musical Direction on 'Little Shop of Horrors'!] are well known across Europe for their sylish and witty dance style and use of original music. For 'Ella G.' the company is joined by some of Europe's most accomplished and distinctive performers, Belinda Neave, Bert Van Gorp and Sarah Dowling an drecent graduates Siobhan Maguire and Iain Payne.

Carlson Dance Company has enjoyed meteoric success since its formation a decade ago. It is renowned for producing work that is fresh, focused and high-powered with dancers who mix precision and speed with the drama of human interaction. Off stage Carlson Dance Company run the Arts Council of Wales revenue funded Dance Blast scheme for young people in Monmouthshire and South East Wales. As well as performing at the Torch Theatre, they will be using their expertise to encourage a new generation of dancers by holding workshops sessions with young people from the area, culminating in a short performance alongside the main performance.
