Theatr Mwldan - Media Centre

The development of a Media Centre attached to Theatr Mwldan will offer opportunities for practitioners and learners in the fields of digital arts and technologies to become involved in a public/private cultural regeneration enterprise. The Media Centre will be funded by the WDA, the Welsh Assembly Government, the Arts Council of Wales and European structural funds.

The Centre is committed to creating opportunities for media training and ultimately, full-time employment for media workers in West Wales. It also aims to provide opportunities to work bilingually throughout media boundaries; facilities for exhibitions, conferences, seminars and various technical facilities will be available for hire.

The development of the Centre and its activities will be influenced by ideas and projects brought forward to the Centre's director and staff - for further information please see the details shown below.

Bridport Prize 2003

The Bridport Prize is an international creative writing competition with both poetry and short story sections. Poems must not be longer than 42 lines in length.

The prizes for both the short stories and the poetry competition are: 1st place - 3000, 2nd place - 1000, 3rd place - 500. There are also 10 supplementary prizes for each competition. Entry is 6.00.

As well as the prizes shown above the top 13 short stories will be read by leading literary agents, and the top 5 poetry entries submitted to the Forward Prize.

Entry forms can be obtained by sending an SAE to the address shown, cheques should be made payable to Bridport Arts Centre. Alternatively entrants can enter the competition via the website.

Bilingual Design Awards 2003

Classification - Marketing

Following the success of the Bilingual Design Awards over the last 3 years, the Welsh Language Board will be awarding the best bilingual design again in 2003. The awards are divided into various categories.

The categories, and closing dates are listed below.

New Media Award 12/05/03 - Include websites, multi-media presentations or promotional CD-Roms.

Signage Award 19/05/03 - Small or large, internal or external signs.

Advertising Award 26/05/03 - Print adverts, T-shirts, post cards and ad. Posters of all kinds.

Packaging Award 02/06/03 - Labels, bottles, boxes and bags of various types.

Promotion Award 09/06/03 - Leaflets, booklets and other promotional materials based around promotion.

In the 5 different categories both the client and the designer will be rewarded, which will include a trophy for the client and a certificate for the designer. The award ceremony will take place during the summer 2003 with the winning designs exhibited at the National Eisteddfod in August. A special commendation certificate recognising good practice in bilingual design will also be awarded.

Applicants should send as many entries as they wish, all must be totally bilingual as well as being created within the last 12 months.
