NATIONAL THEATRE WALES TO HOST EGIN – A TWO-WEEK RESIDENCY ON CLIMATE CHANGE FOR WELSH & INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS |
![]() As part of its Creative Development programme, the company is inviting applications from adventurous and collaborative Welsh or Wales-based artists from different artistic disciplines and at any stage of their careers to attend and take part in the residency, alongside artists from further afield. It is hoped that all attending artists will draw inspiration from the local Welsh landscape and its social history, and a programme of discussions exploring international perspectives on the environmental challenges we face. Announcing Egin, National Theatre Wales’ Head of Creative Development, Simon Coates, said: “Climate change is the most urgent issue of our times and will affect every single one of us and generations to come. Now more than ever we need the arts and culture to help us respond; to provoke and motivate us by offering ideas that challenge our perceptions and influence our behaviours. “Egin aims to do just that; to kick-start fresh artistic responses to the topic, by creating an environment in which Welsh, Wales-based and international artists can spend valuable time developing their work and inspiring each other.” At the residency, the artists will take part in: • discussions between academics, visiting artists and renowned thinkers in the field of climate change and related issues, with a local, national and international perspective, • conversations with the local community to gain insight and understanding into the specific context here in Wales, and • the development and testing of new performance ideas in relation to climate change, with support and coaching from the project’s key partners. The deadline for applications is midday on Friday 12 April, and more information on how to apply can be found at nationaltheatrewales.org/ntw-projects/egin. National Theatre Wales are working with its partners at British Council Wales to identify and select the international artists. |
