SEREMONI WOBRWYO LLYFR Y FLWYDDYN
WALES BOOK OF THE YEAR CEREMONY

Canolfan y Celfyddydau Aberystwyth Arts Centre
MEHEFIN 20 JUNE Caiff enillwyr gwobrau Llyfr y Flwyddyn Cymru 2019 eu cyhoeddi mewn Seremoni Wobrwyo yng Nghanolfan y Celfyddydau Aberystwyth ar nos Iau 20 Mehefin, lle bydd cyfanswm o £12,000 yn cael ei rannu rhwng yr awduron llwyddiannus. Dyfernir y Gwobrau i’r gweithiau gorau ym meysydd ysgrifennu creadigol a beirniadaeth lenyddol o fewn tri chategori: Barddoniaeth, Ffuglen a Ffeithiol Greadigol. Bydd enillydd pob categori yn derbyn gwobr o £1,000, ac fe gyflwynir gwobr ychwanegol o £3,000 i brif enillydd y wobr yn y ddwy iaith. Bydd yr enillwyr hefyd yn derbyn tlws sydd wedi’i greu yn arbennig gan yr artist Angharad Pearce Jones.

Mae’r rhestrau byrion Cymraeg a Saesneg eleni yn cynnwys rhai o awduron amlycaf Cymru. Yn eu mysg mae Prifeirdd, Prif Lenorion, a Phrif Ddramodydd; enillwyr gwobrau megis y Somerset Maugham Award, y Sunday Times Business Book of the Year, yr Orange Prize a’r Costa Poetry Award, ymysg eraill. Yn mynd benben â’r cewri llenyddol hyn mae awduron ar ddechrau eu gyrfaoedd, gan gynnwys rhai sy’n cyhoeddi gwaith am y tro cyntaf.

Ar y panel beirniadu Cymraeg eleni mae’r darlledwr adnabyddus ac awdur chwaraeon, Dylan Ebenezer; Pennaeth Adran Gymraeg ac Astudiaethau Celtaidd Prifysgol Aberystwyth, Cathryn Charnell-White; a’r bardd ac awdur Idris Reynolds, cyn-enillydd Llyfr y Flwyddyn 2017 am ei gofiant i Dic Jones, Cofio Dic (Gwasg Gomer). Mae’r panel beirniadu Saesneg yn cynnwys y bardd ac Athro Llenyddiaeth Saesneg ym Mhrifysgol Lerpwl, Sandeep Parmar; Pennaeth Adran Saesneg ac Ysgrifennu Creadigol Prifysgol Aberystwyth, Louise Holmwood-Marshall; a’r nofelydd ac Athro Emeritws Ysgrifennu Creadigol Coleg Birbeck, Prifysgol Llundain, Russell Celyn Jones.
The winners of the prestigious Wales Book of the Year awards will be announced at an Award Ceremony held at Aberystwyth Arts Centre on Thursday 20 June, where a total prize fund of £12,000 will be distributed to the winning writers. The Wales Book of the Year Award is presented annually to the best works in the fields of creative writing and literary criticism in three categories: Poetry, Fiction and Creative Non-Fiction. Each category winner will receive a prize of £1,000, and the main award winners in each language will receive an additional £3,000. Each winner will also receive a specially commissioned trophy created by the artist Angharad Pearce Jones.


This year’s Short Lists include some of Wales’ leading writers. Collectively they have won a range of literary prizes including: the Somerset Maugham Award, Sunday Times Business Book of the Year, the Orange Prize, the Costa Poetry Award and more. Going head-to-head with established literary giants are some of Wales’ most exciting debut writers.


The English-language judges are: Sandeep Parmar, poet and Professor of English Literature at Liverpool University; Louise Holmwood-Marshall, Head of the English and Creative Writing Department of Aberystwyth University; and novelist and Emeritus Professor of Creative Writing at Birkbeck College, University of London Russell Celyn Jones. The Welsh-language judging panel for Wales Book of the Year 2019 are: poet and 2017 Wales Book of the Year winner, Idris Reynolds; popular broadcaster and sports author, Dylan Ebenezer; and the Aberystwyth University’s Head of Welsh and Celtic Studies Cathryn Charnell-White.
