Cyhoeddwyd y cast heddiw ar gyfer cyd-gynhyrchiad National Theatre Wales a'r Royal Court Theatre o On Bear Ridge gan yr awdur arobryn Ed Thomas (House of America a Gas Station Angel, Royal Court; Hinterland/Y Gwyll BBC/S4C/Netflix). Bydd Cyfarwyddwr Artistig y Royal Court Theatre Vicky Featherstone (The Cane a Cyprus Avenue, Royal Court) ac Ed Thomas yn cyd-gyfarwyddo'r stori lled-hunangofiannol hon am y lleoedd yr ydym yn eu gadael ar ôl, y marciau annileadwy y maent yn eu gwneud arnom ni, a'r atgofion annibynadwy yr ydym yn dal ein gafael ynddynt.

Bydd y cast yn cynnwys Rakie Ayola fel Noni. Ar hyn o bryd mae’n perfformio Strange Fruit yn y Bush Theatre. Mae ei chredydau llwyfan blaenorol yn cynnwys Hermione Granger yn Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (West End), The Half God of Rainfall (Kiln Theatre), a Leave to Remain (Lyric Hammersmith). Ar y teledu mae hi'n fwyaf adnabyddus am ei rôl hirdymor fel Kyla Tyson yn Holby City (BBC).

Jason Hughes fydd yn chwarae The Captain. Mae'n dychwelyd i'r Royal Court lle mae ei waith wedi cynnwys Violence and Son, 4:48 Psychosis a A Real Classy Affair. Bydd yn ymddangos nesaf yn Jellyfish (National Theatre). Mae ei rolau teledu yn cynnwys Hinterland/ Y Gwyll BBC/S4C/Netflix a ysgrifennwyd hefyd gan Ed Thomas.

"Un funud roedd gennym gwsmeriaid, y funud nesaf doedd neb yma."

Mewn pentref coll, lle aneglur ers ail-lunio'r ffiniau, yn cuddio o dan briwsionyn ar y map, mae Bear Ridge Stores yn dal i sefyll.

Ar ôl can mlynedd, mae'r cigydd a'r siop groser deuluol - lle ar gyfer manion bywyd, nwyddau gwaharddedig, a'r pwmp petrol olaf am 30 milltir - yn awr yn ddistaw.

Ond nid yw'r perchnogion John Daniel a Noni yn mynd i unman. Maent yn yfed yr hyn sydd ar ôl o'r whisgi yn herfeiddiol ac yn cofio dyddiau da, pan oedd pawb ar yr un ochr a'r hen iaith yn disgleirio.

Y tu allan yn y tywyllwch, mae ffigur yn symud tuag atynt.

Bydd y ddrama i'w gweld yn Theatr y Sherman yng Nghaerdydd (20 Medi - 5 Hydref 2019) ac yna'r Royal Court yn Llundain (24 Hydref – 23 Tachwedd 2019).

Mae’n gweithredu o leoliad bach yng nghanol dinas Caerdydd, ond mae’n gweithio ar draws y wlad a thu hwnt, gan ddefnyddio tirlun cyfoethog ac amrywiol Cymru, ei threfi, ei dinasoedd a’i phentrefi, ei straeon anhygoel a’i thalent gyfoethog yn ysbrydoliaeth. Mae Llywodraeth Cymru a Chyngor Celfyddydau Cymru yn cefnogi National Theatre Wales.

ROYAL COURT THEATRE
Y Royal Court Theatre yw theatr yr awduron. Mae'n rym blaenllaw mewn theatr y byd ar gyfer meithrin awduron yn weithredol - rhai anhysbys, rhai sy'n dod i'r amlwg a rhai sefydledig.
Trwy'r awduron, mae'r Royal Court ar flaen y gad o ran creu theatr aflonydd, effro, pryfoclyd ynglŷn â nawr. Rydym yn agor ein drysau i'r lleisiau nas clywyd a'r meddylwyr rhydd sydd, drwy eu hysgrifennu, yn newid ein ffordd o weld.

Mae dros 120,000 o bobl yn ymweld â'r Royal Court yn Sloane Square, Llundain, bob blwyddyn ac mae miloedd yn rhagor yn gweld ein gwaith mewn mannau eraill drwy berfformiadau yn y West End ac Efrog Newydd, teithiau yn y DU ac yn rhyngwladol, llwyfannau digidol, ein cyfnodau preswyl ar draws Llundain, a'n gwaith safle-benodol. Drwy ein holl waith rydym yn ymdrechu i ysbrydoli cynulleidfaoedd a dylanwadu ar awduron y dyfodol gyda syniadau radical a thrafodaeth herfeiddiol.

Mae gweithgarwch datblygu helaeth y Royal Court yn cwmpasu amrywiaeth eang o awduron ac artistiaid ac yn cynnwys rhaglen barhaus o ymlyniadau awduron, darlleniadau, gweithdai a grwpiau ysgrifennu dramâu. Mae ugain mlynedd o waith arloesol yr Adran Ryngwladol ledled y byd yn golygu bod gan y Royal Court berthynas gydag awduron ar bob cyfandir.

Yn ystod y trigain mlynedd diwethaf, dechreuodd John Osborne, Samuel Beckett, Arnold Wesker, Ann Jellicoe, Howard Brenton, David Hare a llawer rhagor eu gyrfaoedd yn y Court.

Mae llawer o bobl eraill, yn cynnwys Caryl Churchill, Athol Fugard, Mark Ravenhill, Simon Stephens, debbie tucker green, Sarah Kane – ac, yn fwy diweddar, Lucy Kirkwood, Nick Payne, Penelope Skinner ac Alistair McDowall – wedi dilyn.

Mae'r Royal Court wedi cynhyrchu llawer o ddramâu eiconig o The Children gan Lucy Kirkwood i waith Jez Butterworth, Jerusalem a Hangmen gan Martin McDonagh.

Mae dramâu'r Royal Court o bob degawd bellach yn cael eu perfformio ar lwyfannau a'u haddysgu mewn dosbarthiadau a phrifysgolion ledled y byd.

Oherwydd yr ymrwymiad hwn i'r awdur, credwn nad oes unrhyw theatr yn y byd yn fwy pwysig na'r Royal Court.

Royal Court Artistic Director Vicky Featherstone (The Cane and Cyprus Avenue, Royal Court) and Ed Thomas will co-direct this semi-autobiographical story about the places we leave behind, the indelible marks they make on us, and the unreliable memories we hold onto.

The cast will include Rakie Ayola as Noni. She is currently performing Strange Fruit at the Bush Theatre. Previous stage credits include Hermione Granger in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (West End), The Half God of Rainfall (Kiln Theatre) and Leave to Remain (Lyric Hammersmith). “One minute we had customers, the next minute there was no-one.”

In a lost village, blurred by redrawn borders, hidden under a crumb on the map, Bear Ridge Stores still stands.

After a hundred years, the family butchers and grocers – a place for odds and ends, contraband goods, and the last petrol pump for 30 miles – is now silent.

But owners John Daniel and Noni are not leaving.

They are defiantly drinking the remaining whiskey and remembering good times, when everyone was on the same side and the old language shone.

Outside in the dark, a figure is making their way towards them.

The play will run at the Sherman Theatre in Cardiff (20 September – 5 October 2019) followed by the Royal Court in London (24 October – 23 November 2019).

NATIONAL THEATRE WALES
National Theatre Wales has been making English-language productions in locations all over Wales, the UK, internationally and online since March 2010. It operates from a small base in Cardiff’s city centre, but works all over the country and beyond, using Wales’ rich and diverse landscape, its towns, cities and villages, its incredible stories and rich talent as its inspiration. National Theatre Wales is supported by the Welsh Government and the Arts Council of Wales.

ROYAL COURT THEATRE
The Royal Court Theatre is the writers’ theatre. It is a leading force in world theatre for energetically cultivating writers - undiscovered, emerging and established.

Through the writers, the Royal Court is at the forefront of creating restless, alert, provocative theatre about now. We open our doors to the unheard voices and free thinkers that, through their writing, change our way of seeing.

Over 120,000 people visit the Royal Court in Sloane Square, London, each year and many thousands more see our work elsewhere through transfers to the West End and New York, UK and international tours, digital platforms, our residencies across London, and our site-specific work. Through all our work we strive to inspire audiences and influence future writers with radical thinking and provocative discussion.

The Royal Court’s extensive development activity encompasses a diverse range of writers and artists and includes an ongoing programme of writers’ attachments, readings, workshops and playwriting groups. Twenty years of the International Department’s pioneering work around the world means the Royal Court has relationships with writers on every continent.

Within the past sixty years, John Osborne, Samuel Beckett, Arnold Wesker, Ann Jellicoe, Howard Brenton and David Hare have started their careers at the Court.

Many others including Caryl Churchill, Athol Fugard, Mark Ravenhill, Simon Stephens, debbie tucker green, Sarah Kane – and, more recently, Lucy Kirkwood, Nick Payne, Penelope Skinner and Alistair McDowall – have followed.

The Royal Court has produced many iconic plays from Lucy Kirkwood’s The Children to Jez Butterworth’s Jerusalem and Martin McDonagh’s Hangmen.

Royal Court plays from every decade are now performed on stage and taught in classrooms and universities across the globe.

It is because of this commitment to the writer that we believe there is no more important theatre in the world than the Royal Court.--
