Ian McKellen Award
Yn y gwanwyn wnaeth yr actor byd-enwog Ian McKellen ymweld â Chanolfan y Celfyddydau Aberystwyth ar gyfer perfformiad arbennig fel rhan o’i daith benblwydd o gwmpas theatrau’r DU. Rhoddwyd yr holl arian a godwyd wrth werthu tocynnau, a'r cyfraniadau a dderbyniwyd yn ystod ei ymweliad i un ochr i'w ddefnyddio i gefnogi gwaith y Ganolfan gyda phobl ifanc. Yn dilyn hyn, mae Canolfan y Celfyddydau’n falch iawn o gyhoeddi lansiad Gwobr Ian McKellen.

Bydd y wobr arbennig hon yn agored i bobl ifanc y Canolbarth sydd rhwng 16-25 oed ac am barhau ei hyfforddiant gyrfäol yn y celfyddydau creadigol - yn cynnwys, ond nid yn gyfyngedig i, theatr, dawns a'r celfyddydau gweledol.

Rhoddir un wobr o £500 bob blwyddyn i unigolyn sy'n dangos addewid artistig ac angerdd tuag at ei ffurf gelf, ac sydd â lle i astudio yn ystod y flwyddyn academaidd ganlynol. Gwahoddir ceisiadau ar gyfer gwobr 2019, gyda dyddiad cau o Orffennaf 31ain!

Dywedodd Dafydd Rhys, cyfarwyddwr y Ganolfan, “Rydym yn hapus iawn medru sefydlu’r wobr flynyddol newydd hon i gefnogi pobl ifanc yr ardal sydd am barhau eu hyfforddiant gyrfäol yn y celfyddydau creadigol.” Ychwanegodd, “Roedd ymweliad Syr Ian McKellen i Ganolfan y Celfyddydau yn wirioneddol ddigwyddiad i’w gofio, ac mae’r ffaith ein bod ni wedi gallu creu etifeddiaeth o’r ymweliad hwnnw bydd o fudd i bobl ifanc am flynyddoedd i ddod yn hyfryd.”

Mae ffurflenni cais ar gael ar wefan y Ganolfan www.aberystwythartscentre.co.uk a disgwylir i ymgeiswyr fynychu cyfweliad byr i drafod eu cais yn ystod mis Awst 2019.

This spring the world-famous actor Ian McKellen visited Aberystwyth Arts Centre for a special performance as part of his birthday tour around UK theatres. All the money raised from ticket sales and donations during his visit was set aside to be used in support of the Arts Centre’s work with young people. Following this, the Arts Centre is pleased to announce the launch of the Ian McKellen Award.

This special award will be open to young people from mid-Wales between the ages of 16–25 who intend to continue their vocational training in the creative arts – including, but not limited to, theatre, dance and the visual arts.

One award of £500 will be given annually to an individual who can demonstrate artistic promise and the passion for their art form, and who are in receipt of a place for study during the following academic year. Applications for the 2019 award are open, with a closing date of July 31st!

Dafydd Rhys, director of the Arts Centre, said “We’re really pleased to be able to establish this new annual award to support young people from the area who are undertaking vocational training in the creative arts.” He added, “Sir Ian McKellen’s visit to the Arts Centre was a truly memorable occasion, and to be able to create a legacy from that visit that will benefit young people for years to come is wonderful.”

Application forms are available from the Arts Centre website www.aberystwythartscentre.co.uk and applicants will be required to attend a short interview to discuss their application during August 2019.
