OLIVER! YN AGOR I YMATEB GWYCH GAN Y GYNULLEIDFA
OLIVER! OPENS TO RAPTUROUS RECEPTION IN ABERYSTWYTH
(Datganiad dwyieithog/Bilingual release. Cliciwch yma i fynd syth i'r Gymraeg. Click here to go straight to English.) Mae cynhyrchiad Canolfan y Celfyddydau Aberystwyth o’u sioe gerdd tymor yr haf, Oliver!, wedi’i gyfarwyddo gan Richard Cheshire, wedi mwynhau noson agoriadol llawn dop gyda’r gynulleidfa wrth eu bodd ac ar eu traed yn bloeddio’u cymeradwyaeth wrth i’r cast dynnu’r sioe i’w derfyn.

Mae’r cynhyrchiad, sy’n parhau am dair wythnos, yn cynnwys sêr y West End, fel Anna McGarahan a Matthew Ashforde, ffefrynnau o’r teledu fel John Lyons, Ieuan Rhys a Gillian Elisa, ac mae Sam Ebenezer a Bethan Pearce yn dychwelyd i’w cartref ysbrydol yn actorion proffesiynol.

Ar y noson agoriadol Charlie Longman oedd Oliver, a Rhodri Jenkins a Mackenzie Lawlor sy’n rhannu rôl Oliver drwy’r rhediad. Anirudh Krishna oedd yr Artful Dodger, a Sam Rolt sydd hefyd yn ymddangos yn y rôl drwy gyfnod y sioe.

Ymysg y rheini oedd yn gwylio Oliver! roedd yr actor Gymraeg Phylip Harries, wnaeth canmol “perfformiadau grymus” Ieuan Rhys a Gillian Elisa. Wnaeth y Fonesig Elan Clos Stephens nodi fod y sioe’n un o “safon uchel” wrth longyfarch y cast a’r gerddorfa, a gwnaeth Alana Spencer o gwmni gacenni Ridiculously Rich by Alana galw’r sioe’n “hollol anhygoel”.

Roedd ymateb y gynulleidfa i berfformiadau gyntaf y sioe’n eithriadol, gyda rhai’n dweud bod gan y sioe “safon y West End” ac eraill yn dweud dyma’r sioe “orau iddynt erioed ei weld” yng Nghanolfan y Celfyddydau. Mae’r cast o sêr proffesiynol yn “wych” ac yn “anhygoel” gydag un aelod o’r gynulleidfa’n nodi bod Matthew Ashforde fel Fagin yn “ragorol”. Roedd clod ar gyfer y plant hefyd, “sêr y dyfodol,” medd rhai.

Mae’r cynhyrchiad o’r “ansawdd uchaf” wedi derbyn clod am ei oleuo, y set a’r band byw, sy’n chwarae cerddoriaeth wreiddiol Lionel Bart yn berffaith trwy’r sioe. Wnaeth un aelod o’r gynulleidfa hyd yn oed arsylwi byddai’r cynhyrchiad wedi “gwneud argraff ar hyd yn oed Lionel Bart”!

Bydd Oliver! yn parhau i redeg yng Nghanolfan y Celfyddydau Aberystwyth tan Awst 31ain, gyda pherfformiadau pob nos Mawrth-Sadwrn, a pherfformiadau’r prynhawn ar ddyddiau Mercher, Iau, Sadwrn a Sul. Mae hyn yn cynnig digon o gyfleoedd i ddod i wylio’r cynhyrchiad a “argymhellir yn gryf.” Byddwch yn sicr yn gadael y theatr yn “canu”!

Mae tocynnau ar gael o swyddfa docynnau Canolfan y Celfyddydau Aberystwyth, dros y ffôn ar 01970 623232 neu ar-lein yn www.aberystwythartscentre.co.uk

Aberystwyth Arts Centre’s summer season musical production of Oliver!, directed by Richard Cheshire, enjoyed a sold-out opening night and a standing ovation as the cast took their bows on the first performance of a three-week run.

The production features performances from West End stars including Anna McGarahan and Matthew Ashforde, TV favourites including John Lyons, Ieuan Rhys and Gillian Elisa, and some of the best young acting talent from mid-Wales, including Sam Ebenezer and Bethan Pearce.

For opening night Charlie Longman performed the role of Oliver, with Rhodri Jenkins and Mackenzie Lawlor sharing the role throughout the run. Anirudh Krishna was the Artful Dodger, with Sam Rolt also appearing in the role during the show.

Among those watching Oliver! on its opening weekend was Welsh actor Phylip Harries, who called the production a “top class show”. Dame Elan Clos Stephens also called this a “class” production, and praised the quality on what was only the first of many performances; and Alana Spencer of Ridiculously Rich by Alana called the show “absolutely incredible”.

Audience responses to the first shows have been exceptional, with some calling the show “West End standard” and others saying that Oliver! is the “best they’ve ever seen” at the Arts Centre. The professional cast of stars are “excellent” and “amazing,” with one audience member singling out Matthew Ashforde’s Fagin as “outstanding.” The performances from the children were praised, with one audience member calling them “little stars in the making.”

The “top quality” production was praised for its lighting, scenery, choreography and its live band, which plays Lionel Bart’s original score to perfection throughout. One audience member remarked that “even Lionel Bart would have been impressed”!

Oliver! continues its run at Aberystwyth Arts Centre until August 31st, with evening performances every night Tuesday-Saturday, and matinees on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. This offers plenty of opportunities to see this “highly recommended” production that will have you coming out “singing”!

Tickets are available from the Aberystwyth Arts Centre box office in person, over the phone on 01970 623232 or online at www.aberystwythartscentre.co.uk
