Opera on Barry Island?! Opera’r Ddraig Presents Donizetti’s ‘The Elixir of Love’

Cardiff-based, non-profit opera company Opera’r Ddraig are currently performing in London! Working alongside established, London-based fringe company The King’s Head Theatre, Opera’r Ddraig have created a new, abridged adaptation (running time of 1 hour 20 minutes) of Donizetti’s ‘The Elixir of love’.
Set on Barry Island in 1982, and with a new libretto by Chris Harris and David Eaton, this production is vibrant, wildly funny and easily enjoyable. Already nominated for an Off West End award (Opera Production category) and receiving five star reviews, the show has charmed both opera enthusiasts and opera newcomers equally.
The cast features exciting, emerging young talent from Wales, including Welsh Soprano Alys Mererid Roberts (Adina), Opera’r Ddraig Alumni and RWCMD graduate, Tenor David Powton (Nemorino/Nicky) and National Youth choir of Wales Alumni, baritone Themba Mvula. The show is also directed by the talented North Walian Director Hannah Noone and librettist Chris Harris hails from South Wales.
