"Death and The Maiden" By Ariel Dorfman 8th July 8p.m. Chapter Arts Centre, presented by Actorsworkshop FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY! 3 characters. 2 days. 1 room. Intense, confrontational and emotional! Actorsworkshop's new production of Ariel Dorfman's political thriller is unveiled on Tuesday next week. Set in Chile, or any country that has returned to democracy after a long period of dictatorship, "Death and the Maiden" is a suspense filled cat-and-mouse thriller, following the events within a secluded beach house. A husband and wife relive the darkness of their past, as a stranger arrives at their door one night, leaving them to question the idea of truth, justice and retribution. This production by Actorsworkshop, the community and voluntary theatre group programming weekly workshops and performances at Chapter Arts Centre, comes just a few months before Ariel Dorfman unleashes his new sequel to "Death And The Maiden" in the West End this autumn. The emotions and situations potrayed in Actorsworkshop's production are intense and overwhelming as we see the struggle of Paulina and her husband physically and mentally through the play. Imagine what you would or could do when confronted by an unwanted figure from the past. Gerardo, fighting with his own notions of justice and retribution, bends to his wife’s will and forces the stranger to confess what he knows or what he can make up?
