New staff member at Creu Cymru: the Touring Agency for Wales

Creu Cymru, the touring agency for Wales based in Aberystwyth is delighted to welcome Berith Hjelmgaard to the new post of Theatre Programme Development Officer. Berith, who has both Danish and American nationality, was previously a freelance drama teacher and lecturer in the Aberystwyth area and holds an MA in Theatre, Film and Television from University of Wales, Aberystwyth.

The post of Theatre Programme Development Officer has been developed to liase between the 40 member venues of Creu Cymru and producing companies seeking to tour in Wales. Berith joins the three existing staff members of Creu Cymru, with her appointment strengthening the agency's ability to work on behalf of member venues in sourcing appropriate, affordable and challenging product for audiences across Wales.

Berith's post has been developed as a trainee position, allowing both Berith and Creu Cymru to develop the position to their unique needs, as no similar post exists elsewhere in the UK. Berith, who started with Creu Cymru on the 16th June will now enjoy an exciting and innovative nine month traineeship involving placements with a number of varied member venues, a producing company and a tour agent. As a trainee position, the initial ten weeks of the post are being supported by Cymru Prosper Wales, an organisation assisting Welsh graduates into employment through placements and training. The traineeship is being assessed and managed by freelance arts administrator Julie Turner, who will meet regularly with Berith and the other Creu Cymru staff to ensure the training goes fully to plan.

In addition to a planned programme of visits to all 40 member venues to discuss their programming ambitions and needs, Berith is looking forward to hearing from any producing company seeking to tour in Wales. Berith will also visit the Edinburgh Festival next month to view productions with a view to bringing them to Welsh venues. Berith can be contacted on 01970 639452 or by email

Creu Cymru - the Touring Agency for Wales was established in 2001.
