Free access to Oxford Reference Online in Wales

Normally only available via paid subscriptions, Oxford Reference Online can now be accessed at no charge by people across Wales, either through the internet services available in public libraries or at home for those with their own internet access and who are members of a public library. You can log on to the service at home by using a password and library card number which will be given to you by your library.

This initiative was launched by Welsh Assembly Government e-Minister Andrew Davies at the Royal Welsh Show in Builth Wells last month. The Welsh Assembly Government sees this initiative as benefiting schoolchildren, students, adult learners and returners to education. It is also seen as an additional incentive for taking out membership with a public library.

Users will be able to access 100 key Oxford dictionaries and reference works which include complete language and subject dictionaries and reference works - containing well over 60,000 pages in total. The resource is cross searchable.

A complete titles listing in PDF format can be accessed on the Oxford Reference website. They include:

The Oxford Dictionary of Art
The Oxford Dictionary of Dance
The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Music
The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Opera
The Concise Oxford Companion to the Theatre
The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Literary Terms
