Butoh was developed in 1959 by Tatsumi Hijikata, Kazuo Ohno, and Akira Kasai. It was inspired by the work of Fluxus artists, Surrealists, and Dadaists and greatly influenced by the German Tanz Theater movement as a dance of self-expression. It is not necessary to be a dancer - some Butoh exponents believe that it actually helps not to be. If you have attended Bodyweather workshops with Tess de Quincey or Stuart Lynch you may be particularly interested in Butoh. Marie-Gabrielle Rotie is Welsh, and one of the most exciting dance-theatre makers, working in the UK today. Marie-Gabrielle originally trained in Fine Art, starting as a painter but graduating in film and installation work. Between 1988 and 1992 she has created work in installation, film and photography exploring the performative body. In 1992 she encountered the Japanese dance/theatre form, Butoh and since then has devoted her creative energies to learning as much as she can from the very best Japanese practitioners. She has now studied Butoh in Japan and Europe with over 20 of the most influential teachers including: Ko Murobushi, Carlotta Ikeda, Masaki Iwana and with Kazuo Ohno and Tatsumi Hijikata's widow - original founders of Butoh. Her performance work also draws upon her training and interest in experimental vocal work (which is Roy Hart based), visual contemporary dance/theatre, live art and projected image. Many of her works have been site-specific or gallery based and her works have been presented in Denmark, Spain, Italy, Japan, Germany and the UK. Dyma gyfle i chwilio dull perfformio unigryw o Japan. Datblygwyd Butoh ym 1959 gan Tatsumi Hijikata, Kazuo Ohno, ac Akira Kasai. Fe'i hysbrydolwyd gan waith artistiaid Fluxus, Swrrealwyr, a Dadayddion a roedd yn drwm dan ddylanwad mudiad y Tanz Theater fel dawns hunanfynegi. Does dim angen bod yn ddawnsiwr - mae rhai perfformwyr Butoh yn credu ei bod hi mewn gwirionedd yn gaffaeliad i chi beidio â bod. Os ydych chi wedi mynychu gweithdai Bodyweather gyda Tess de Quincey neu Stuart Lynch hwyrach y bydd gennych chi ddiddordeb neilltuol mewn Butoh. £50 (£25 concessions) |
