Visiting Arts

Visiting Arts, the national agency for promoting the flow of international arts into the UK (covering the performing arts, visual, applied and media arts, crafts, design, literature, film, and architecture), has launched a new online resource intended to help UK-based programmers and curators present international arts more efficiently. The website ( <>) is designed as a networking and information tool, helping professional arts practitioners in the UK share information about projects involving overseas artists, including presentation, collaboration and residencies. A major function of the website is to act as a resource for those who are looking for partners with whom to develop plans to present international work.

Also included on the website is a section on funding, accessible by clicking on the 'Funding' link at the top of the homepage. The Funding section has information about and links to organisations that provide funding to support bringing international work to the UK, as well as information about awards available from Visiting Arts, including the newly renamed Visiting Arts Project Development Awards. The Project Development Awards are open to any UK-based promoter/venue promoting quality foreign work with a 'clear country specific dimension', which demonstrates a contribution to development of cultural awareness/relations in the UK. The average amount of these awards is between £2,000 and £3,000, but can range from £500 up to £6,000 (in exceptional circumstances). Deadlines are on-going, but applications should be received a minimum of four months before the start of a project, and earlier if the project is unlikely to succeed without the funding.
