Workshops from the Centre for Performance Research

The Centre for Performance Research (CPR), Aberystwyth, has announced the spring listings for its Cross Currents series of workshops. Details are as follows:

PETER MORGAN BARNES - SPEAKING SHAKESPEARE/ LLEFARU SHAKESPEARE
Saturday 7 February, 10am - 5pm, at/in partnership with Llandovery College, Llandovery, Mid Wales, £25 (£15 cons)
*Participants will learn how to bridge the language divide of turning 400 year-old texts into spoken words capable of captivating contemporary audiences. Aimed at performers and directors, this workshop is especially useful for Drama and English teachers and anyone wishing to bring Shakespeare’s words to life for young people.

PATRICIA BARDI - VOCAL DANCE/LLAIS A SYMUD
Saturday 28 & Sunday 29 February, 10am - 5pm, (4pm Sun), at/in partnership with St. Donats Arts Centre, Vale of Glamorgan, £50 (£25 cons)
* An introduction to Vocal Dance, a practice developed by Patricia Bardi that enables the voice to be fully alive and vivid in expression and movement. A workshop for dancers, actors, singers and anyone who has a strong interest in voice and movement work. Morning sessions will focus on breathing exercises, experiential anatomy and sensory awareness. Afternoon sessions will introduce improvisation structures combining vocal, physical, visual and temporal elements in solo, duet and group work.

ULTIMA VEZ MOVEMENT/SYMUD
Saturday 28 & Sunday 29 February, 10am - 5pm, (4pm Sun), at Swansea Institute, Swansea, in partnership with Volcano Theatre, led by Wim Vandekeybus, one of Europe’s leading dance theatre companies, £50 (£25 cons)
*Participants will explore and confront Wim Vandekeybus' energetic vocabulary through floorwork; ‘partner’ and ‘contact’ work; and movement as a 'theatrical act' rather than as a 'technique'. The Ultima Vez workshops are open to dancers, actors or people with training in other physical disciplines.

ROSEMARY LEE DANCE IMPROVISATION/GWEITHDY DAWNS
Saturday 6 & Sunday 7 March, 10am - 5pm, (4pm Sun), at/in partnership with Powys Dance Centre, Llandrindod Wells, £50 (£25 cons)
*Concentrates on exploring ways to get to the optimum ‘receptive state’ for improvising and dancing. Through becoming aware of phrasing and rhythm both in silence and with music Rosemary Lee aims ‘to help participants find new challenges; new departures and new experiences, whilst also bringing the dancers closer to home and more present within.’
