The Centre for Performance Research (CPR) continues its highly successful Cross Currents participatory workshops in a programme of five weekend workshops. Each workshop will take place in a different location in Wales: Cardigan; Llandovery; the Vale of Glamorgan; Swansea and Llandrindod Wells. Each intensive workshop will give participants the opportunity to learn new skills in voice technique, dance, movement and ‘theatre for development’ and meet a wide range of professional, student and enthusiast performers from around the UK. PETER MORGAN BARNES (UK) will be running the only one-day workshop “Speaking Shakespeare”, in Llandovery on Saturday 7th February. Aimed at performers and directors, this workshop is equally useful for Drama and English teachers and anyone wishing to bring Shakespeare’s words to life for young people PATRICIA BARDI (France) will be teaching in the Vale of Glamorgan her voice and movement improvisation workshop, “Vocal Dance” on the 28th and 29th February. A workshop for dancers, actors, singers and anyone who has a strong interest in voice and movement work. This workshop will introduce Vocal Dance, a practice developed by Patricia Bardi that enables the voice to be fully alive and vivid in expression and movement. In Swansea, members of Wim Vandekeybus’ Belgian company, ULTIMA VEZ will be presenting a workshop on “Movement” - also on the 28th and 29th February. Participants will explore and confront Wim Vandekeybus' energetic vocabulary through floorwork, “partner” and “contact” work, and movement as a 'theatrical act' rather than as a 'technique'. The Ultima Vez workshops are open to dancers and/or actors or people with training in other physical disciplines. ROSEMARY LEE will be leading a “Dance Improvisation” workshop in Llandrindod Wells On the 6th and 7th March. The workshop will concentrate on exploring ways that we can get to the optimum “receptive state” for improvising and dancing. SMALL WORLD THEATRE will be presenting a workshop on the techniques and philosophies of “Theatre for Development” on 27th and 28th March. The workshop will explore ideas that encourage social and environmental change or innovation. If you are a professional performer or singer, an experienced enthusiast or simply curious about performance and keen to explore your creativity, this programme of workshops offers the opportunity to learn new skills from some of the best practitioners working today. CROSS CURRENTS is a programme rich in the range of skills and diverse in the cultures it represents in workshops across Wales over February and March this year.
