One Snowy Night     

The captivating tale of a young Icelandic boy, Nonni, left in charge of the family’s isolated homestead. With the family’s dog, Titla, he embarks on a magical journey through the Arctic wasteland to find the family’s missing prize sheep, Gullbra, meeting a host of strange creatures on the way.

Originally commissioned by the Festival Theatre Chichester, the play was inspired by the book Independent People by Halldor Laxness who won the Nobel prize for Literature.

Charles Way has lived and worked in Wales for the past twenty five years. His plays have been performed by companies all over Britain and internationally. He has written over forty plays, including many for young people, and various radio and television scripts. His working relationship with Gwent Theatre began over twenty years ago and the company has commissioned and performed many of his plays including She Scored for Wales, Eye of the Storm, In Living Memory, Dead Man’s Hat, The Tinderbox and A Spell of Cold Weather.

Designed for 6 - 9 year olds, this delightful production is touring to Primary Schools from December 15th 2003 - March 12th 2004.

Gwent Theatre provides a high quality professional Theatre in Education service for schools and communities that is creative, diverse and inclusive. Performances and workshop activities create access and participation for young people to experience live theatre and develop an appreciation of literature and the creative arts, provoke discussion of current issues and inspire an interest in the world in which they live. The company also creates opportunities for young people to participate in theatre activities under the direction of professional theatre practitioners through the Gwent Young People’s Theatre. Gwent Theatre is based at the Melville Theatre in Abergavenny, a highly active and well resourced venue for small scale touring companies, films, youth theatre and arts activities.
