Cwmni Tref Caernarfon has appointed Huw Aled Jones as manager of Galeri, the new Creative Enterprise Centre, which is currently under construction at Victoria Dock. Huw Aled has a wealth of experience in production management and began his career as a soundman with the BBC in Cardiff. Originally from Aberarth in Ceredigion, Huw Aled moved to North Wales to take up a post with Barcud, when the company first began in 1982. Fifteen years later, Huw went freelance and worked as a Production Manager, concentrating mainly on managing the television screening of high profile events in Wales. These include the National Eisteddfod, Faenol Festival, Sesiwn Fawr Dolgellau and the BBC Wales’ broadcast of the General and Assembly Elections. Huw Aled, who now lives in Anglesey, also works for the Thomson Foundation and travels to the Middle East every year to train and teach Arab sound technicians. As well as being responsible for the day to day running of Galeri, Huw Aled will also develop a full programme of events and activities for the centre, which will appeal to a wide range of people “I always like to take on a new challenge, which was what attracted me to apply for this post,” said Huw Aled. “As centre manager, my aim is to work with the rest of the core staff to develop Galeri into a resource which will promote the creative enterprises whilst offering top class entertainment value at the same time for people in Caernarfon and across North Wales. “This is a very important and exciting development for the town, which will hopefully fill a gap that has been missing here since the days of the former Majestic, when it was used as a cinema and a venue for concerts and other events." Galeri will open its doors to the public in March 2005 and will include a 400 seat theatre, two large rehearsal studios, rooms for hire, bar, café, visual arts exhibition area and workspaces to let for those working within the creative industries. This £7.5m project is funded by the Arts Council of Wales Lottery Fund, Welsh Assembly's Local Regeneration Fund, ERDF Objective 1 programme, Wales Tourist Board, Welsh Development Agency, Gwynedd County Council and the owners, Cwmni Tref Caernarfon.
