| Scarface |
First
presented in 2000
by eddie ladd |
synopsis:
Scarface is an hour long dance theatre multi-media show based on Brian de Palma's classic 1983 film of the same name. It is a tribute to the trash aesthetic, excess and method acting.
The performance is based around colour separation overlay (CSO) technology. The space is divided between a blue CSO screen and a white projection screen. The performer works against a blue screen, a somewhere which is nowhere, has no orientation and is not a "real" space. The performer does not make a finished performance, she supplies material for the finished performance, which is created on the white projection screen. In this "real" space, the performer, the setting and the soundtrack are finally locked together through video and sound mixing.
Scarface is about film and film acting and is strongly influenced by film choreography. It features action sequences and stuntwork and attempts almost unperformable passages based on rapid film-editing. In contrast to these wide shot set-pieces, there is also tight shot, detailed and intimate work close to camera. The show is a tribute to the film's lead actor Al Pacino, with the female performer getting as close as she can to a male Hollywood icon through physical imitation, lipsynching and vocal pitch shifting.
The text is in Welsh, dialect Welsh and bad English and, in keeping with the original, is riddled with expletives (writer Oliver Stone included 100 f**** in his filmscript to which Al Pacino added another 150).

| Lla’th |
First
presented in 1999
by eddie ladd |
synopsis:
This production by McLucas and Ladd reveals Brith Gof’s well known, complex and evocative theatrical style - a synthesis of movement, vocabulary and text (Welsh and English) with original site specific context. Lla’th weaves together three strands: the death of Christ, the death of Yuri Gagrin and the death of a farmer, David Finch, in West Wales. The Finch family were neighbours of Eddie Ladd’s family, and the story of his death, now part of local mythology, is true, one that Eddie Ladd grew up with. Lla’th (Gwynfryd) incorporates both live CCTV relay and pre-recorded video footage to provide differing and various points of views on the action.
