venue policy Theatr Mwldan is a vibrant arts and entertainment complex, situated in the centre of Cardigan, an old market town on the beautiful coast of west Wales.
Originally established in 1983, Theatr Mwldan began life as a community project to convert Cardigan's disused abattoir into a theatre. Now a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity, Theatr Mwldan is a highly successful community enterprise, a company owned and managed by the community that it serves.
Theatr Mwldan presents a year-round multi-artform programme of professional and community live performance, participatory activity, plus one of best film programmes in Wales, including both mainstream and specialist film releases.
A major £7 million development project was completed in June 2004, delivering a vast improvement in the range of facilities available. The theatre’s level of activity increased enormously to more than 80,000 admissions per year, and its customers now enjoy the highest quality experience. The venue now boasts two excellent auditoria, both presenting live performance and cinema, and offering comfortable seating, big screens and Dolby Digital sound.
Other new facilities at Mwldan include a studio space, a great new foyer including a café and bar plus Box Office and Gallery. A new multi-media centre, Creative Mwldan Creadigidol, has also been launched in the newly renovated and extended former farm buildings on a site adjacent to the theatre building. Creative Mwldan is home to a wide range of creative industries professionals and offers an impressive variety of high quality skills and services.
Theatr Mwldan now has a new role as a producer and originator of performance, within its new status as a Regional Performing Arts Centre as recognised by The Arts Council of Wales. The productions specialise in world and traditional music, drama and music theatre, and Theatr Mwldan is working on many of these projects in a co-production role with a variety of production partners.
