venue policy | The Savoy's history can be traced back to 1794 and the current building dates from 1928, making it the oldest working cinema in Wales. Today the theatre is managed by a Trust and is a registered charity and a band of volunteers make sure the building will carry on bringing cinema and live theatre to the town of Monmouth. There are at least two live shows per month covering everything from drama, music and comedy to local theatre groups. Lately, the theatre has played host to Julian Clary and Chris Packham and is soon to present Showaddywaddy and in March, 2011, Pam Ayres, to name but a few. When there are no live shows, the theatre shows a wide range of cinema from the latest releases to less mainstream films. |
