venue policy | Wales Millennium Centre (WMC) opened in November 2004 and is already establishing a reputation as one of the world’s most iconic arts and cultural destinations and is an award-winning national symbol for Wales. The vision of WMC is to be an internationally significant cultural landmark and centre for the performing arts, renowned for inspiration, excellence and leadership. WMC aims to attract audiences and visitors from Wales & beyond and to provide a creative home for Wales’s leading arts and cultural organisations. WMC receives annual revenue funding from the Welsh Assembly Government. It employs more than 110 staff and operates a diverse range of income-generating activities including the 1900 seat Donald Gordon Theatre, the 250 seat Weston Studio and a range of catering and retail operations. As well as providing catering and retail services WMC also has an extensive public programme that comprises education, community outreach, free performances and guided tours. WMC provides a creative home to seven of Wales’s leading arts and cultural organisations, who in addition to creating their own work, contribute to all aspects of the Centre’s programme. The resident organisations include world-class touring opera company, Welsh National Opera, Wales’s national literature promotion agency and Society for Writers, Academi, contemporary touring dance company, Diversions, pioneering touch therapy charity, Touch Trust, Wales’s leading small-scale touring theatre, Hijinx, one-stop music service, T_ Cerdd and Wales’s largest youth organisation, The Urdd. |
