THE SUMMER SHIFT 2004

19 June – 25 July 2004, Aberystwyth, Wales, UK

THE SUMMER SHIFT 2004, 19 June - 25 July in Aberystwyth, Wales programme includes: Elevator Repair Service, the internationally acclaimed theatre group from New York; Motiroti the inspired multi-cultural and multi-media theatre company behind the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Procession and the Manchester Commonwealth Games Opening Parade; Aida Redza the engaging Malay dancer and choregrapher, and renowned dance and scenographic artists, Carol Brown and Dorita Hannah. These special guest artists will be joining, Wales-based theatre directors including : CPR’s Artistic director, Richard Gough and Voice Director, Joan Mills and former Brith Gof director, Mike Pearson and UK-based Indian dancers Taal Fusion to present an exhilarating five week programme - with a twist.

Run by the Aberystwyth based Centre for Performance Research, THE SUMMER SHIFT is part retreat, part intensive workshop and part holiday. It makes creative use of Wales’ natural environments - woods, seashores and mountains - and attracts participants from around the world, eager to take a sometimes radical but always distinctive view of the world through experimental performance training. The Summer Shift programme enables participants to explore site-specific opportunities and to create images in and with the landscape as well as in the studio. Workshops this year will also be exploring performance and ‘scouting’ and performance and food. This year there is also the opportunity for participants to visit the international storytelling festival, Beyond the Border, at St. Donat’s

The Summer Shift is an unequalled opportunity to study with some of the most acclaimed and inspiring theatre and movement artists in the world. The workshops are suitable for performers, directors, writers, students, teachers and academics who want to experience and learn new training methods, devise work that embraces voice, physical and visual theatre, explore their creativity and imagination and enjoy the beauty of the landscape in West Wales.
