Welfare State International is a company led by artists who are passionate about finding new ways to weave art into the fabric of our lives. The organisation pioneers the art of celebration and ceremony, exploring personal and public occasions. Based at Lanternhouse, South Lakeland, the centre for the arts of celebration offers exhibitions, installations, research and development opportunities, and a space for artists, facilitators and managers to research and create. They are running an introductory course examining the philosophy and practicality of creating ceremonies and celebrations. It combines theory, group work, site visits and hands on art work. The course runs between Monday 26 July - Saturday 31 July, and usually cost £299 (including materials and food); however they are offering a £100 discount for late booking artists.
