ROSEBUD NETS TWO TOP EDINBURGH AWARDS

At a packed-to-the-rafters awards ceremony in the Edinburgh Assembly Rooms on Friday 27th August, the Cardiff-based Rosebud Productions team were called up on stage twice.

After winning a much coveted 'Fringe First' for the play about theatre and movie director Orson Welles, they were then awarded the first, new 'Carol Tambor Edinburgh to New York Award'.

Fringe Firsts are given for new writing. The Carol Tambor Award means that the whole team will fly out to New York in early November for a week of showcase performances of the play before invited audiences of  promoters, agents and NYC theatre managers.

'It's a wonderful opportunity for us, and completely unexpected', says writer, Mark Jenkins. 'After all New York was the city where Welles totally revolutionised American theatre at the tender age of 22, before moving on to do the same in movies by the age of 24. And 2005 will be the twentieth anniversary of Welles' death, so there could be a lot of interest.'

The Awards are particularly gratifying for the thirty-year-old actor, Christian McKay', who has hardly worked for the past two years and has devoted the last year to perfecting the role of Welles. But Tenby-born director, Josh Richards, will miss the US trip because he's opening in a new West-End musical 'Brighton Rock' shortly.
