SILENT RHYTHM – Kaite O'Reilly, Denise Armstrong and Alison Jones, with Dave Handford. A multi-sensory exploration of space, smell, sound, text and choreography within an installation and live art performance, using written, spoken and visual languages. Silent Rhythm is a cross art-form collaboration between writer/director Kaite O’Reilly, dancer Denise Armstrong, visual artist Alison Jones and sonic artist Dave Handford. This work in progress is informed by the female artists’ sensory impairments, using them as a source of inspiration for creativity. It explores the relationship between the installation and the live art performance and the different senses each privilege and focus on. The installation is visual, audible and olfactory, combining fragmented audio description with layered and textured sound, using the dancer and installation environment as sound source. The live art performance within the installation is based on a combination of British Sign Language and Sign Theatre– harnessing ‘the inner tempo, the silent rhythm.’ Both aspects of the work in progress need to be experienced to get a full impression of the exploration. It is recommended that those attending the performance visit and experience the installation before the performance begins. [Since voice and audio description are integrated into the installation, the performance will not be voiced or audio-described.] Silent Rhythm is open to the public 18th and 19th November 10.30am-5.30pm - Sandon Room, Bluecoat Arts Centre, School Lane, Liverpool L1 3BX A short live art performance will take place at 6.00pm on 18th and 19th November by Denise Armstrong.
