Artists in residence opportunity, Shrewsbury
|
The Belmont Arts Centre in Shrewsbury is inviting proposals for residencies from artists working in any art form - visual arts, performing arts, new media, design, literature etc. as part of its commitment to supporting artists during the crucial early years of their professional development.
Proposals are invited from students, recent graduates and practising artists at an early stage in their career, individuals, groups and companies are all welcome to apply.
Projects should result in the performance, presentation or exhibition of an original work developed during the course of a 2 - 6 week residency at Belmont Arts Centre and must include opportunities for practical activities involving children, young people or other groups in the local community.
You will benefit from:
- the opportunity to make new work in a supportive environment with access to resources and equipment
- professional support and advice from the staff of Belmont Arts Centre
- practical experience of participatory arts practice with school and community groups.
Your fee will be a 60% share of the income earned from activities for which a charge is made, such as workshops and performances. If your proposal is successful, we will work with you to draw up a detailed programme, identify opportunities for participatory activities and set
income targets. Belmont Arts Centre will be responsible for co-ordinating and marketing the programme.

1) A description of the work you intend to make and the opportunities it will offer for participation (no more than 2 sides of A4)
2) Details of your current and recent artistic practice
3) The names and contact details of two professional referees to Martin Sumner at the address below.

There will be three application rounds during the year:
1 - Residency April - August 2005
Application closing date 17th December 2004, interviews 5th - 12th January 2005
2 - Residency September - December 2005
Application closing date 1st March 2005, interviews 14th - 18th March 2005
3 - Residency January - April 2006
Application closing date 20th June 2005, interviews 4th - 8th July 2005
