During 2004 Powys Dance has been celebrating the 25th anniversary of the company, with DanceFests taking place in Llandrindod Wells, Brecon and Welshpool. The final event of the year will take place this Saturday 4th December, with dance groups returning to Theatr Brycheiniog for an evening of community creativity and delicious dancing. Pictures, People & Poems is the theme and groups from Brecon, Llanigon, Ystradgynlais and Llandrindod have been developing an extraordinary mix of dance ideas over the past term. Also performing will be invited guests from Merthyr College and Coleg Powys. Pictures appearing on stage include the (not so) still-life with oranges and young men; three sides of a triangle, inspired by Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon; groups Megamotion from Llanigon and Ffrwydro! from Ystradgynlais being framed in every way. Poems are a great source of inspiration for these young people, and ‘frameUs’ local poets will be appearing onstage as part of the dances. Topics include stars, fireworks, colours, sock mice and old French ladies with their pants showing! Powys Dance has been dancing with the communities of Powys since 1979, when it was established as Footloose Dance Company. Although based in Llandrindod Wells, the company works all over the county in schools and communities. Vicki Thomas said, “Pictures, People & Poems is a fantastic way to conclude our 25th year. The company is in a strong position at this time, with the full support of Powys County Council and The Arts Council of Wales. Their ongoing support allows us to enable young people and adults from all over the county to express themselves, take part in healthy and safe physical activity, but most of all, to have fun!” “Pictures, People and Poems” Saturday 4th December, 7.30pm Theatr Brycheiniog. Tickets: £5 (£3 concession) Family Ticket £12 To book phone 01874 611622 For more information about the performance or Powys Dance, contact Vicki Thomas, Powys Dance, 01597 824370, powys.dance@powys.gov.uk |
