RUTH TILL, Director of Rubicon Dance, Cardiff

Community Dance Wales would like to offer warmest congratulations to
RUTH TILL, Director of Rubicon Dance, Cardiff on receiving an MBE in the new year honours lists in recognition of her dedication to the development of community dance.

Ruth's passionate belief in the power of community dance is an inspiration
and we are delighted that her personal investment in Wales has made a huge
difference to community dance.

Ruth initially trained and performed as a dancer before becoming a dance lecturer on a theatre and community arts programme at Rotherham College of Arts and Technology, South Yorkshire.

a dance centre which became home to Phoenix Dance Co. and also hosted a
community dance programme.

In 1993 Ruth moved to Wales to take up the post of Director at Rubicon
Dance, which is the community dance development organisation for Cardiff and
Newport. Rubicon's priorities are to address access to dance with consistently high quality provision, to create opportunities for young people to achieve in and through dance and to provide relevant training for potential community dance practitioners.

Ruth's skills and experience have also been widely sought on an
international scale promoting community dance the Rubicon, Wales way as
guest of Ausdance, Australia, as guest of Danstationen, Malmo, Sweden, as
guest of Utah Arts Council and through youth dance exchanges with groups in
Berlin, Salt Lake City and Copenhagan.

“Our young dancers are great ambassadors for Wales”.

in Craiova, Romania, along with a fellow dance leader from Rubicon, working
with deaf and disabled children in residential schools and orphanages.
