Arts appeal to boost Tsunami giving
|
As music fans across the UK prepare for a sell out charity gig in Cardiff's Millennium Stadium, The Arts Council of Wales (ACW) is urging galleries, theatres, concert halls and arts centres across Wales to join the Tsunami charity appeal.
"The human response to the natural disaster has simply been phenomenal," said Peter Tyndall, Chief Executive of the arts development body. "Now we are urging arts lovers to do their bit by joining in the appeal on Saturday 22nd. With the help of the network of arts organisations we are confident that the people of Wales will continue to demonstrate their practical concern and compassion. We understand that many venues and centres have already held appeals that have been very successful. This latest initiative is aimed at continuing the good work already undertaken."
Wales boasts an enviable network of arts centres from local community buildings to the iconic Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay. Iestyn Davies, Head of Communication at The Arts Council of Wales added "We hope that all involved in the arts in Wales will join with us in this venture and that the network of venues will ensure that everyone in Wales can take part. We also hope that commercial galleries and cinema will also share in the effort."
The body will also be undertaking an appeal to the guests at its Creative Wales Awards, which will be held on Friday 21st January.
The Arts Council of Wales is urging its clients to fundraise for the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) on Saturday 22nd January, which coincides with the Millennium Stadium's "Wave Aid" concert. Sums raised should be deposited directly to DEC via any bank or post office or by sending a cheque to:
