BBC Cardiff Singer of the World press and pr appointment     

Cardiff-based arts media specialist Mediasmith has been appointed to manage press & publicity for BBC Cardiff Singer of the World.

An integrated media and pr campaign in the lead up to the prestigious singing competition will be run by Welsh arts journalist and marketing specialist Mike Smith.

Details of this year’s competition including the names of the 25 contestants and panel of jurors will be announced in mid-February.

Simultaneous announcements will be made in the home countries of the contestants where there is already considerable interest in whether their country has been successful and, if so, the identity of their contestant.

There will be a media launch in Cardiff. Details to follow. This year’s competition forms part of Cardiff’s celebrations marking 100 years as a city and 50 years as the capital of Wales.

This year’s competition will be held between Saturday, June 11 and Sunday, June 19 with 25 finalists from around the globe competing in Cardiff’s St David’s Hall for the coveted title BBC Cardiff Singer of the World 2005.

The finalists can also take part in the competition’s Rosenblatt Recital Song Prize which is held in Cardiff’s New Theatre leading to the final which takes places in St David’s Hall.

Mike Smith is one of Wales’ most respected arts writers, commentators and critics. He writes regularly for the Western Mail and his arts reviews also appear on a number of influential arts websites.
