“a surefire hit” The Western Mail
It’s 2006. England have won the world cup. (Thank f*** - otherwise we’d have to invade Iraq again.) Sir David Beckham is a national hero. His shirt has sold for
137,000 Euros at a charity auction. Three friends meet for dinner, two want sex, the other bought the shirt. It is almost ART.
Written by “award winning Welsh writer, Lewis Davies”(British Theatre Guide), this comedy drama explores the lives and relationships of three old friends.
After several cheeky one-twos and a fair share of harsh tackles, you have to wonder is it time to blow the full-time whistle on these friendships?
Football premiered at 2004’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Here’s what some of the press said:
o “a witty take on 21st Century pretensions that packs an awful lot i! nto its 45 minutes” British Theatre Guide
o “solidly acted drama…football’s cultural significance is well captured” The Scotsman
o “The dialogue is sharp and combatative” Theatre in Wales Website
o “an interesting play well worth seeing…puts its finger on many contemporary social trends far more astutely than most commentators”
