Call for consulation on drama strategy
|
Many arts organisations in Wales are on tenterhooks waiting to hear what decision the Arts Council will make on its controversial new proposed drama strategy
The Arts Council proposes, amongst other things, to give more funding to Theatr Gwynedd and Theatr Cwyd by directing money away from some of its other existing drama clients
A meeting was held in Swansea on 23/2/99 betwen representatives from the Arts Council, Swansea and Carmarthen Councils, the Welsh Local Government Association and four theatres, to call for the controversial proposed drama strategy to be delayed by 12 months to give all organisations affected by the proposals a proper chance to consider the implications of this radical document
Councillor David Phillips, chair of Cultural Services at Swansea City and County Council said, "There as to be a true consultation, which is not possible in the six weeks we have been given"
ACW chief executive Joanna Weston said,"Further decisions on ACW's drama funding will be announced in March folowing consultation"
