This Summer, The Sherman Theatre is pleased to present an eclectic programme of events featuring professional drama, dance, music, new writing and fresh talent. Amazing Grace, Mal Pope’s eagerly awaited new musical about the Welsh Revival based on the book by Frank Vickery, appears as part of the Cardiff International Festival of Musical Theatre – directed by Michael Bogdanov and starring Peter Karrie, it looks set to be the musical event of the year. The art of storytelling is given an ironic twist by The Splinter Group in their brand new production The Morals of Modern Day Myths and dance fans will be delighted to hear that Transitions Dance Company are back with a line-up offering the very best in international contemporary dance. The Sherman once again demonstrates it’s commitment to Welsh Language Theatre by hosting two Welsh Language shows this season, Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru’s Ty Ar Y Tywod and, for 7-11 year olds, Arad Goch’s Lleuad Yn Olau, a stage adaptation of the book by T.Llew Jones. Nurturing emerging talent and encouraging participation and accessibility is very much on the agenda with The Sherman’s SwitchedOn season. Events include ScriptSlam, The Sherman’s monthly interactive presentation of new writing, and UnZipped, a monthly informal sharing of work by young writers, performers, musicians and directors. Both events are open to the public and tickets are only £2. As well as all this, The Sherman Summer School, Youth Theatre and award-winning curriculum of alternative learning Acting Out are all continuing to go from strength to strength.
