Theatre in Wales

The latest theatre, dance and performance news

Following its standing ovations at the week-long Toronto Harbourfront World Stage Festival in April, 'Rosebud - The Lives of Orson Welles' has just been contracted to return to the off-Broadway stage later this autumn.
Rosebud has been touring theatres in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland since January this year, under the auspices of Cardiff-based company, Rosebud Productions in conjunction with SCAMP theatre management. These two companies have just finalised contracts with Tell Me Tales Productions of New York City. It's an extensive contract with options that could keep the show busy. coast-to-coast, for the next few years.
American promoter Turlough McConnell says "We're all very excited about it and ready to go!" The actor who will play the role of Welles is former-RSC member, 31 year-old Christian McKay whose performances attracted critical acclaim in Edinburgh 2004. Welsh College of Music and Drama-trained Josh Richards, from Tenby, will be flying out to direct the show, as he did at Edinburgh, where it won the Edinburgh-to-New York award, resulting in its first New York tour last November. Author Mark Jenkins says, "The progress of Rosebud continues to surprise and delight me. It's so good for the careers of Christian and Josh, because they will be getting exposure before some of the most demanding audiences and other top professionals in the business. We had always planned to be in New York on the anniversary of Orson's death and now it looks like its going to happen, on time!"
