Theatre in Wales

The latest theatre, dance and performance news

The Sherman Theatre is delighted to announce the ScriptSlam Grand Final 2005 on Tuesday 14 July at 8pm in The Sherman Venue 2. The Sherman’s resident company of young actors, Sherman Nation, will be performing the 6 excerpts of new writing which have made it into the final after winning their individual rounds at monthly ScriptSlams, which have taken place at The Sherman this year.
A distinguished panel of judges including Theatre Critic David Adams, Sgript Cymru’s Literary Manager Angharad Elen and Sherman Artistic Director Phil Clark, will be on hand to comment on the pieces to give their advice and feedback but it will the audience who decides who becomes the Grand Final winner.
Dinos Aristidou, The Sherman’s Participation Manager said: “There’s such an enormous wealth of writing talent in Wales and we are very happy to be harnessing it here at The Sherman. It’s very exciting for the writers to see their ideas go from page to stage and the audiences have been constantly surprised at the standard and quality of writing. Our company of emerging artists, Sherman Nation, also deserve great credit for showing incredible dedication and talent.”
The Sherman’s Marketing Manager, Haleh Ahmadian, commented: “The monthly ScriptSlam’s have been very successful and regularly sell out in our intimate performance space Venue 3, so we are holding the final in Venue 2 to allow more audience in. The real twist is that it’s the audience who decides who wins and they choose their favourite piece. We’ve also kept the price really low at only £3 to try to make new writing as accessible as possible. ScriptSlam has had a very successful first season, new scripts are still coming in and we’re starting to get a name as a place where new writers can take their work further.“
Tickets for the ScriptSlam Grand Final on Thursday 14 July at 8pm can be booked by calling The Sherman Theatre Box Office on 029 2064 6900.
