"Is Theatre in Wales engaging with contemporary society"?

This is the question being discussed by the Arts Council of Wales and drama specialists from all over Wales this Friday.

The seminar will take place at the Gate Arts Centre in Roath, Cardiff beginning at 10.30am on 15th July 2005.

It is the first of a series of seminars and lectures to be organised by the Arts Council of Wales, offering expertise and artistic leadership from ACW.

The seminar will be chaired by Geraint Talfan Davies and there will be over thirty playwrights, artistic directors, dramaturgs, theatre administrators and academics from all over Wales taking part.

The seminar will begin at 10.30 with a view from Scotland with a platform discussion with guests, Jonathan Meth from Writernet and Katherine Mendelsohn the Literary Manager at the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh.

By exploring the situation in Scotland, ACW aims to draw out the key themes that are influencing the development of play-wrighting and production in Wales.

The afternoon discussion will focus back onto the situation in Wales with a platform party drawn from artistic directors and playwrights from Wales.

After the seminar ACW will publish a pamphlet exploring further the key themes and discussions from the day.
