Theatre in Wales

The latest theatre, dance and performance news

By Jeeves, here’s exciting news!

It’s not very often that a lesser-known Andrew Lloyd Webber musical is performed outside London.  Even rarer for such an exciting event to come to Gwent, and yet that’s exactly what the Academy of Musical Theatre Wales has achieved in association with the Really Useful Group.
On 4th August, at 7.30pm, the Congress Theatre Cwmbran opens its doors for the opening night of By Jeeves, ready for a run of three nights only.
By Jeeves is a unique collaboration between Andrew Lloyd Webber (music) and Alan Ayckbourn (book and lyrics), based on the Jeeves stories by P.G Wodehouse.
Directed by Academy Principal Drew Baker and full of comedy, intrigue, mistaken identity, and not to mention toe tappingly great songs, By Jeeves makes for “an enchantingly batty” evening.  With an intimacy rarely seen from such giants as Lloyd Webber and Ayckbourn, By Jeeves has everything you need from the misguided lust of Honoria Glossop, the comic attempts of Bertie Wooster to avoid engagement at all costs, the star crossed love stories at its core, pomposity, manners, and glamour. At the beating pulse of it all, is the invincible, unshakeable Jeeves himself.  Containing songs that will have you humming as you leave such as “It’s a Pig,” Love’s Maze” and “the Hallo Song”, a night in the company of the By Jeeves cast will make a memorable night out.
You can book tickets now by ringing the Congress Theatre, Cwmbran on 01633 868239.  The show opens on Thursday 4th August, with a 7.30 start, and runs for three nights.  Group discounts are available- book ten tickets and pay for nine.  Ticket prices are £8 and £6 for concessions. Ring today to avoid disappointment!
