Would you like to star in a BBC Radio drama? Are you passionate about acting and the Arts but have no formal training? Then this could be for you! In an effort to develop new talent within Wales, The Sherman Theatre has joined forces with BBC Radio to hold auditions for the prestigious Norman Beaton Fellowship. The Sherman Theatre is on the look out for bright new acting talent from those who haven’t had the chance to study drama. The Fellowship is a flagship scheme run by BBC Radio Drama as part of their actor talent events. It aims to broaden the range of actors available to Radio producers across the UK by encouraging applicants from non-traditional training backgrounds. Norman Beaton was perhaps best remembered for his role as the cantankerous barber shop owner in the iconic Desmonds. Throughout his life he consistently broke down barriers from becoming the first black teacher in Liverpool to establishing the Black Theatre of Brixton. The Sherman is looking for people with enthusiasm and commitment to audition for the Fellowship. “It’s a wonderful chance for those from a non-traditional background to get their careers started.” said Dinos Aristidou, The Sherman’s Education Youth Participation manager. “It’s also an opportunity to discover new and exciting talents within Wales. The Sherman has always been committed to developing fresh new talent and we’re looking for those who can take on the challenge and develop their skills to a new level.” He added. Two Fellowship winners will each receive fixed-term bursary contracts with the Radio Drama Company, and up to four runners-up will receive single freelance engagements in Radio Drama productions. Applicants must be aged 18 and above and must not have attended an accredited drama school. The auditions welcome applicants from ethnic minorities. Those interested in auditioning for the Fellowship and beginning a career in Radio Drama should contact Dinos Aristidou at The Sherman before 27th January on 02920 646901 or eyp@shermantheare.co.uk. |
