Abigail’s Party by Mike Leigh
In this, their first public English language performance, the young company founded in Cardiff in 2003 breathes new life into Mike Leighs ever popular “Abigail’s Party”.
Following the success of Cwmni theatr 3D’s two original plays “Endorffin” and “O’r Neilltu” and their unique performance of Sion’s Eirian’s “Epa yn y Parlwr Cefn”, the company has endeavoured to again experiment with their theatre (and to enlist the help of Beth House, Glenn Jones and Owain Rhys Davies) to produce a cocktail of fresh talent.
Barbara and Laurence’s strained relationship is put to its final test, when new-to-the-area couple Angela and Tony, and reserved divorcee Susan all gather at the house for an evening of Bacardi and nibbles. As the night progresses the tensions simmer, and all parties are forced to confront some home truths. With the power of the drink, and the vehemence of emotion the night takes a sour turn. With the taut atmosphere, the couple’s cutting swipes and the quintessential seventies feel,this play continues to entertain and embarrass its audiences.

Yn dilyn poblogrwydd dwy ddrama wreiddiol Cwmni Theatr 3D, “Endorffin” ac “O’r Neilltu” , a’u perfformiad unigryw o “Epa yn y Parlwr Cefn” gan Sion Eirian, mae’r cwmni eto yn ymdrechu i arbrofi gyda’i theatr (gyda help Beth House, Glenn Jones, ag Owain Rhys Davies) i gynhyrchu cymysgedd coctêl o dalent newydd.
Mae perthynas anodd Barbara a Laurence ar brawf pan mae’r cwpwl newydd i’r ardal Angela a Tony, a Susan, y wraig leol sydd newydd ysgaru yn ymgasglu am noson o Facardi a danteithion. Wrth i’r noson fynd yn ei blaen, mae’r tensiynau’n codi, ac mae’r gwesteion yn gorfod gwynebu gwirioneddau. Mae tro yng nghynffon y noson wrth i bwer y ddiod feddwol, a’r teimladau tanbaid gynyddu.
Gyda’r awyrgylch ddirdynnol, geiriau creulon y cyplau a naws nodweddiadol y saithdegau, mae’r ddrama hon yn dal i ddiddanu ac i godi cywilydd ar ei chynulleidfaoedd.
