My Family star Keiron Self, better known as stupid-but-kind Roger the Dentist in BBC’s hit sitcom My Family is returning to the stage this April in a comical adaptation of the Chaucer classic Canterbury Tales on at The Sherman Theatre on Tuesday 4 – Wednesday 5 April at 7.30pm.Keiron will be starring in Mappa Mundi Theatre Company’s hilarious and dramatic comical adaptation of medieval literature’s great unfinished epic, Canterbury Tales which will be filled with a hugely entertaining blend of boisterous comedy, romance, fetching images and heaps of wit and charm. Keiron, who lives in Cardiff, has been involved with virtually all of Mappa Mundi’s productions and has enjoyed considerable success on stage, national television and radio, as writer and performer. In the months prior to performing and writing for Canterbury Tales, he has been busy filming new episodes of hit sitcom ‘My Family’ and BBC Wales Valleys drama “High Hopes”. As well as starring in Canterbury Tales, Keiron is also responsible for adapting Chaucer’s best loved tales into boisterous and energetic tales littered with twentieth century references from ebay to bird-flu, from the A Team to The Carpenters. Whilst retaining Chaucer’s social satire of medieval times, these contemporary references make these well loved stories accessible to all. A talented writer, Keiron has written for all four series of the BBC Wales Sketch show Lucky Bag and is currently working on his own comedy series, and has a film optioned by Forget About It Film & TV. Mappa Mundi are renowned for their adaptations of classic works which in recent years have included Richard III and As You Like It, and are always full of gusto and energy (and often a cheeky twist!). Life’s rich tapestry is all here, as a group of Welsh commoners pass the time on their annual pilgrimage to Canterbury by performing some of Chaucer’s most appealing tales including The Miller’s Tale, The Nun’s Priest’s Tale and The Wife of Bath’s Tale. Mappa Mundi’s Canterbury Tales is a joyous story, full of earthy humour, and an entertaining evening is promised for all. Canterbury Tales is at The Sherman Theatre on Tuesday 4 – Wednesday 5 April 7.30pm and can be booked from the Box Office on 029 2064 6900. Please note this production is not suitable for those under 12. |
