Sign up for creative training..... A ground-breaking new initiative aimed at providing a training ground to kick-start careers in the creative industries is set to offer interested members of the public the opportunity to ‘sign-up’ for training at an official launch event to be staged at the Grand Pavilion, Porthcawl on Wednesday 19th April between 5pm – 6.30pm.

The Creative Industries Training Scheme, which has received funding worth £30,000 from the Arts Council of Wales will extend opportunities and career paths in a variety of art forms including directing, producing, choreography, project management, set and costume design, stage management, sound and lighting, writing, film and video, arts marketing, project management, music and much more.

Co-ordinated by Bridgend County Borough Council’s Art and Culture Service the innovative two year programme is open to people of all ages, regardless of past experience and will offer trainees the opportunity to work with a variety of professional organisations including ITV Wales, Theatre Companies and the Arts Council of Wales. The organisers are also interested in hearing from current creative professionals who are looking to develop their skills in other creative areas.

“With Dragon Studios due to open in the summer, South Wales is set to become the centre of the UK film industry, as a result there will be more opportunities than ever for well trained creative professionals based in this area,” said Guy O’Donnell, Creative Industries Training Co-ordinator.

“This really is a great opportunity for local people to gain practical, hands-on training in a wide range of areas of the performing arts.

“As part of their training, trainees will get to work on real productions, with professional companies and will gain nationally recognised qualifications that will kick-start their careers in the creative industries,” he added.

Official partners of the project include ITV Wales, The Arts Council of Wales, Diversions, Bridgend Youth Theatre, Hijinx Theatre, The Grand Pavilion, Spectacle Theatre, Blaengarw Workingmen’s Hall, The Berwyn Centre, Maesteg Town Hall, Pyle Life Centre and Theatre Na Nog.

Members of the public who attend the launch and are interested in ‘signing-up’ for the scheme should bring either a brief CV or information on themselves.
