Comic opera comes to the Riverfront
|
Opera della Luna present The Burglar’s Opera, a hysterically funny comic opera at The Riverfront on Saturday 13 May at 7.30pm.
Based on a story by WS Gilbert, and has a sparkling new score using themes from Sullivan’s orchestral music. The story charts the rise and fall of Septimus Golightly, from his education at Eton, via his glittering social success as patron of the society for Providing More Bishops, to his final demanding downfall, when caught red handed, clad only in anti-macassars, whilst burgling the home of a celebrated designer of dadoes.
Prices are £14.50, £12.50, £7.50 with Reductions and CLC available.
Opera della Luna was established in 1994 to take over the work of The English Players. The aim of the company is to create new and innovative productions of musical theatre in English. Their work complements that of the larger companies by performing pieces which rarely appear in their repertoires. Through this work they hope to reach a wider and more diverse audience, and bring actors and singers together to profit from their exchange of skills and give them the chance to take leading roles.
Since its inception in 1994, Opera della Luna has established itself as a highly original and innovative ensemble of extremely versatile singers and comedians. Recent productions of The Merry Widow and HMS Pinafore have played to packed houses. |
