Fluellen take on The Caretaker

Fluellen take on The Caretaker The highly acclaimed Fluellen Theatre Company returns to the Grand Theatre Arts Wing on May 9th with a new production of Harold Pinter`s great play, THE CARETAKER.

First performed in 1960, it quickly established its writer as one of the most brilliant and important voices in British theatre, an accolade that has stayed with him to the present day. In 2005 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature, the highest honour available to any writer in the world. Harold Pinter is, without doubt, the greatest living British playwright.

Set in a seedy and cluttered room of a West London house, THE CARETAKER explores the relationships between two brothers and a tramp whom one of them has rescued from a beating-up. The dialogue is incisive and very funny, but beneath the surface there lies an implicit violence that always threatens to explode. Pinter tells us about ourselves and our relationships with our fellow human beings in a manner which is by turns uncomfortable and yet superbly funny.

In the leading role of Davies the tramp is Peter Richards, Fluellen`s Artistic Director, who in recent years has played the title roles in KING LEAR and THE MASTER BUILDER. Appearing as the enigmatic brothers are the excellent actors Robert Statham and the larger-than-life George Andrews (who was a celebrated Bottom in Fluellen`s recent A MIDSUMMER NIGHT`S DREAM).

Played in-the-round THE CARETAKER promises to be a gripping and absorbing opportunity to see for yourselves why this celebrated play is a modern masterpiece.
