The Riverfront is thrilled to announce that CandoCo, the world's most famous integrated dance company of disabled and non-disabled performers will be performing a world-class double bill this autumn and it will be their only performance in Wales this year and their first many years. CandoCo has once again joined forces with the best choreographers from around the world to create a double-bill that's packed with raw talent and not to be missed on Tuesday 3 October at 7.30pm. CandoCo’s last season was a huge success, wowing audiences and critics alike and cementing CandoCo’s place as a leader in the UK dance scene. The new programme features two great new works. The Journey, a fast and furious pilgrimage through the emotions, is choreographed by Fin Walker of Walker Dance Park Music. The driving internal momentum is matched by the exhilarating performances of CandoCo’s dancers. Impulses of abandonment are punctuated with moments of reflection, all intimately entwined with the rhythmic score of composer, Ben Park. A complex and arresting journey of discovery. In contrast, In Praise of Folly choreographed by Athina Vahla is a rich and evocative piece of dance theatre, inspired by the intrigues of Renaissance art. The piece is pervaded by a powerful sense of beauty, coupled with a constant potential for destruction. Dark and intimate imagery, haunting movements and disquieting music make for an atmospheric performance. Since its formation CandoCo has gone from strength to strength broadening perceptions of dance through an inspirational programme of dance performance and education work. Founded in 1991 by Celeste Dandeker and Adam Benjamin, CandoCo quickly grew from a weekly workshop into the first company of its kind in the UK. Since then CandoCo has worked with a host of internationally renowned choreographers and toured to over 50 countries, visiting Europe, Australia, North and South America, Asia and Africa. CandoCo has won a host of awards for its performance and education work and has received much acclaim from the press, the public and from colleagues in the worlds of dance and education. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see this spectacular dance company in Wales! Ticket prices range from £5 - £12 and can be booked by calling the Box Office on 01633 656675 or visit www.newport.gov.uk/riverfront |
