Welsh Director Returns Home

Welsh Director Returns Home Swapping the sunnier climes of Ravenna in Italy to return home to Wales, Welsh Director Menna Price has recently rejoined Spectacle Theatre as a guest director for their autumn project ‘A Ghost In The Attic’ by Mark Ryan.

Menna last worked with Spectacle a decade ago on ‘Wedi’r Haf’ and ‘Un Nôs Ar Faes Peryddon’ by Valleys writer, Ian Staples.

The project is currently in rehearsal and will tour to schools, community venues and sheltered accommodation from October to December.

Spectacle has been in existence for almost thirty years, and the more it does, the more it has become clear that Theatre in Education should extend further than simply schools. Since they tailor their work to act as a catalyst for follow-up work – whether it be workshops, discussion or resource packs – the more that there is shared experience within families and communities, the richer the experience for the children.

Inter-generational projects are therefore a high priority, and following on from the highly successful ‘The Clock’ last autumn, Spectacle has commissioned Mark Ryan to pen ‘A Ghost In The Attic’.

Set in the Valleys in 1941, the play tells the story of the Matthews family. Joan Matthews doesn’t believe in ghosts. After all, she is eleven years old. The war is scarier than lying in bed listening to the mysterious footsteps in the attic, the creaking on the stairs and the doorknob slowly turning in the middle of the night…isn’t it?
