A Ghost in the Attic

A Ghost in the Attic Welsh Director Menna Price has recently rejoined Spectacle Theatre as a guest director for their autumn project ‘A Ghost In The Attic’ by Mark Ryan which will be performed at the Melville Theatre, Abergavenny on Friday 6th October 2006.

Menna last worked with Spectacle a decade ago on ‘Wedi’r Haf’ and ‘Un Nôs Ar Faes Peryddon’ and has returned to Wales from Ravenna in Italy.

The play is suitable for people of all ages and is touring until December. Set in the Valleys in 1941, it tells the story of the Matthews family. Joan Matthews doesn’t believe in ghosts. After all, she is eleven years old. The war is scarier than lying in bed listening to the mysterious footsteps in the attic, the creaking on the stairs and the doorknob slowly turning in the middle of the night…isn’t it?

Spectacle has been in existence for almost thirty years, and the more it does, the more it has become clear that Theatre in Education should extend further than simply schools. Since they tailor their work to act as a catalyst for follow-up work – whether it be workshops, discussion or resource packs – the more that there is shared experience within families and communities, the richer the experience for the children.

Inter-generational projects are therefore a high priority, and following on from the highly successful ‘The Clock’ last autumn, Spectacle has commissioned Mark Ryan to pen ‘A Ghost In The Attic’.

Tickets are available from the Borough Theatre, Abergavenny, 01873 850805.
