Mid Powys Youth Theatre (MPYT) are once again rehearsing for their autumn production - a specially adapted production of Nicholas Nickleby. This autumn is a particularly exciting time for both MPYT and Theatr Powys as they have just moved back into their base, the newly refurbished Drama Centre in Llandrindod Wells. Nicholas Nickleby will be the first production to be rehearsed at The Drama Centre and will celebrate the companies' return to their magnificent new home. Nicholas Nickleby is a timeless classic by that committed social commentator of the nineteenth century, Charles Dickens. Local director, Sue Best of Shakespeare Link is directing the production assisted by Phil Bowen. Musical Director, Matt Davison is creating a lyrical mix of traditional and modern music and Theatr Powys' Jill Rolfe is masterminding set and costumes. The cast of over 30 young people will play up to 70 different characters in an adaptation which we hope remains faithful to Dickens' original whilst giving free rein to the exuberant talents of the young people. The venue for this year's production is also a new departure for MPYT. They will be performing at The Pavilion in Llandrindod Wells, a marvellous venue very much in keeping with the Victorian atmosphere of the piece with its flamboyant interiors, balconies and generous hall. The show will be performed cabaret style and the audience may find itself caught up in the streets of London or the wilds of the Yorkshire moors. Performances are Tuesday 31 October, Thursday 2 to Saturday 4 November at 7.30pm. Tickets (£8/£5) are available from The Pavilion Box Office on 01597 823532. Nicholas Nickleby promises to be an evening of laughter and tears which explores dark issues still relevant today and ultimately celebrates courage, love and family. |
