Sherman Youth Theatre to Open Kosovo Film and Theatre Festival

Young people from Cardiff’s Sherman Youth Theatre will travel to Kosovo this November to perform in a prestigious Film and Theatre Festival with local Albanian and Serbian performers.
Eight members of the Sherman Youth Theatre will travel to Pristina, Kosovo to open the Skena Up International Students Festival of Film and Theatre at the National Theatre of Kosova. They will rehearse with 8 young performers from Kosovo to recreate Gospel which the Youth Theatre recently performed at The Sherman.
Youth Theatre Director Phil MacKenzie comments:
“It’s a fantastic honour to be invited over to Kosovo to perform as part of the festival. The young people worked so hard to create a fantastic show with Gospel earlier this year, and it will be invaluable experience to go and work with the young people from Pristina and to learn from this international collaboration.”
The Skena Up International Students Film and Theatre Festival was founded in 2003 by a group of students and artists to promote the artistic relations between Kosovo and the rest of the world, and is hailed as the most important and biggest cultural event in Kosovo since the war.
Youth Theatre member Elvi Piper, 18 from Roath, comments,
“We’re so excited about going to Kosovo. It’ll be fascinating to work with other young people from a totally different culture, and really interesting to experience Kosovo first hand after growing up hearing so much about it on the news. “
The Sherman Youth Theatre travel to Kosovo on 5 November and perform on 11 November among 13 other international invited productions and 150 films from across the globe.
