Clwyd Theatr Cymru’s Theatre for Young People and Cwmni’r Frân Wen will be co-hosting this special one-day conference to celebrate the unique work of the eight Theatres for Young People in Wales.
The conference will be held on Friday, 8th December, 2006
at Clwyd Theatr Cymru, Mold
Why a Conference? Why Now?
The day will raise the profile of the present provision offered by the eight Theatres for Young People in Wales.
The national provision in Wales is unique, and is one which has grown and developed over the last thirty years to offer a wealth of experiences which are vital in the educational and cultural development of the youth of Wales.
During 2005 – 2006
2,110 performances took place in front of
audiences totalling 129,617 young people.
Despite the fact that our work targets and includes this amount of young people, there is very little awareness of the value of the variety and quality of this amazing resource in both Welsh and English.
The day’s main objective is to demonstrate how future enhanced funding and stability could enable our work to be developed to its full potential. In recognition of the importance of this work several Members of Parliament, Assembly Members and prominent individuals from the Arts, Education and Culture will be present.
“Young people have the right to quality arts experiences, just as everyone else, but too often this work goes unnoticed. We look forward to celebrating the quality and diversity of the eight companies – once dubbed ‘The Jewel in the Crown’ of theatre in Wales, with our peers, politicians and other key individuals in Wales”.
The day, which will be hosted by television presenter Siân Lloyd, includes:
ß A speech delivered by Jane Davidson A.M., Education Minister
ß A key-note speech by the playwright Charles Way
ß An opportunity to see all eight Theatres for Young People perform extracts of their work.
This is an unmissable opportunity to acknowledge, support and ensure the future development of the pioneering work achieved by theatre for young people in Wales.
